'Magic City Delivers Another Unforgettable Race Weekend

Miami, FL — January 26, 2026

The Magic City lived up to its name once again as the 24th Annual Life Time Miami Marathon & Half presented by FP Movement brought together one of the most internationally diverse running communities in the event’s storied history. With athletes representing 49 states and 82 countries, this year’s sold-out race showcased why Miami has become a must-run destination on the global marathon circuit.

A Quick Visit, A Lasting Victory

Kenya’s Dominic Ondoro made his brief Miami stay count, claiming the men’s elite marathon title despite being in South Florida for less than 40 hours. The highly decorated marathoner conquered the 26.2-mile course in an impressive 2:17:47, overcoming a turned ankle at mile 21 that proved only a minor setback.

“This race exemplifies the global appeal of Miami,” said Samantha Bailey, Senior Marketing Manager at Life Time. “From elite athletes traveling across oceans to local runners pushing their personal limits, the Miami Marathon creates unforgettable moments for everyone.”

Ondoro finished more than two minutes ahead of Texas runner Bradley Makuvire (2:20:12), with Brazil’s Ederson Vilela Pereira (2:21:18) rounding out the men’s podium.

Florida’s Christina Welsh brought home-state shine to the women’s elite marathon division, crossing the finish line in 2:42:14. She was followed by 2025 European Master’s marathon champion Ellie Stevens of Las Vegas (2:45:43) and Miami Beach’s own Hanna Hauschild (2:52:27), demonstrating the strength of South Florida’s running community.

Half Marathon Excellence

The half marathon featured its own international flair, with Colombia’s Mauricio Gonzalez taking the men’s elite title in 1:06:17. Miami resident Paxton Smith earned his second consecutive runner-up finish (1:08:27), just edging out two-time Olympic Trials qualifier Will Norris of Charlottesville, VA (1:08:41).

Britain’s Tracy Barlow finally broke through for the women’s elite half marathon crown with a time of 1:17:37, after placing third in each of the previous two years. Indianapolis runner Lucy Dobbs, who has top 50 finishes at both the New York and Boston Marathons, took second place (1:19:32), while University of Miami volunteer coach McKenna Revord claimed third (1:25:10).

A Course That Showcases Miami’s Best

Sunday’s field navigated the USTAF-certified, Boston-qualifying course that has become famous for its stunning views. Starting at Kaseya Center, runners crossed the shimmering waters of Biscayne Bay to South Beach, wound through the iconic Ocean Drive, explored the tree-lined streets of Coconut Grove, and passed through Miami’s bustling financial district before returning downtown.

The scenic route offers runners a unique perspective on South Florida’s diverse neighborhoods and landmarks, from the Art Deco architecture of South Beach to the urban energy of downtown Miami.

A Weekend of Running

The marathon weekend kicked off Saturday with the Life Time Tropical 5K, where former Venezuelan Olympian Luis Orta captured his fifth victory. The event has become a favorite warm-up for marathon runners and a standalone destination race for 5K enthusiasts.

Running for a Cause

Among the thousands of runners were 36 athletes representing the Life Time Foundation, each raising funds to support youth movement programs, youth nutrition initiatives, and environmental sustainability efforts. Their participation transformed personal athletic achievement into meaningful community impact.

Adding to the weekend’s community spirit, 850 elementary and middle school students from Miami-Dade County joined the race to complete the final mile, experiencing firsthand the excitement and accomplishment of crossing a marathon finish line.

Record Demand Continues

The 2026 race sold out in mid-August 2025, marking the fifth consecutive sellout and the earliest in the event’s history. This surge in popularity reflects Miami’s growing reputation as a premier marathon destination, combining world-class race organization with the city’s unbeatable winter weather and vibrant atmosphere.

Looking Ahead

As organizers begin planning for the milestone 25th anniversary in 2027, anticipation is already building for what promises to be an extraordinary celebration. The Miami Marathon has evolved from a regional race into an international sporting event that puts South Florida on the global running map each January.

The Life Time Miami Marathon & Half is part of nearly 30 premier athletic events owned and produced by Life Time, joining prestigious races like the Chicago Half Marathon, UNBOUND Gravel, and the Leadville Race Series.

Life Time’s South Florida Presence

Beyond race weekend, Life Time maintains a strong presence in South Florida with five athletic country club destinations. The company’s newest facility in West Boca joins established locations in Coral Gables, Miami at the Falls, Boca Raton, and Palm Beach Gardens, providing year-round training facilities for local runners and fitness enthusiasts.
